Project description

The Ruães hydropower plant is located on the Cávado River, in the district of Oporto, Braga. Ruães is a 'run-of-river' type hydropower plant that includes two turbines, a long weir for water deviation, an intake, and a power house, situated on the left bank of the Cávado River. The initial construction of the power plant is dated to 1876, with a 50 HP hydraulic turbine. Several improvements have been made over time, by different owners, both in the dam and power house.

Operation under RP Global’s ownership spanned from 2002 until 2011.
